Everyone needs to watch this video.

Texas Parks and Wildlife produced this video after a 2 year study on the effects of barotrauma in bass and the best way to fizz a bass. The video will highlight the study and give excellent instructions on how to fizz a bass.

Thank you to Texas Parks and Tim Cook (Texas BASS State Conservation Director) for providing this.

The “no cull” rule as it relates to summer black bass tournaments was put in place to minimize the amount of mortality that occurs when bass undergo stress from being held in a livewell for extended periods of time, followed by stress from the weigh-in procedures. Numerous research tournaments, including two held in Missouri, indicate that even though most fish may swim away from a weigh-in, the delayed mortality rate of tournament bass during the summer months is high.

A study conducted in 2003 at Pomme de Terre resulted in a 50% mortality rate over a 7 day holding period. In comparison, a group of fish collected as controls with electrofishing gear, and held in the same pens for 7 days, experienced only 3% mortality. ...

B.A.S.S. is back: The “dots” are returning to the name and products of the organization that’s been serving bass anglers worldwide for more than 40 years.

The subtle name change from BASS to B.A.S.S. is an affirmation of the company’s grass roots, said Jerry McKinnis, who with Don Logan and Jim Copeland acquired B.A.S.S. from ESPN on Nov. 1.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has denied a petition calling for a ban on the manufacture, use and processing of lead in fishing gear.

In a letter to the petitioners, EPA indicated that the petitioners have not demonstrated that the requested rule is necessary to protect against an unreasonable risk of injury to health or the environment, as required by the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). The letter further indicates that the increasing number of limitations on the use of lead fishing gear on some federal and state lands, as well as various education and outreach activities, call into question whether a national ban on lead in fishing gear would be the least burdensome, adequately protective approach to address the concern, as called for under TSCA. EPA's letter also notes that the prevalence of non-lead alternatives in the marketplace continues to increase.
